Auditions for SINGIN' IN THE RAIN - Revised


Announcing auditions for Cabrillo Music Theatre’s production of SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, the stage adaptation of the classic M.G.M film. SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN will be directed by Larry Raben. Lloyd Cooper will serve as Musical Director and Conductor, and the production will be supervised by Cabrillo Music Theatre’s Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld. David Engel, five-time Ovation Award winner, will choreograph and play the lead role of Don Lockwood (the role made famous by Gene Kelly). The role of Cosmo Brown (the Donald O’Connor role) will be played by Randy Rogel. The 2008 production of SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN will include the rarely-staged movie version of the “Broadway Melody Ballet.”

SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN begins rehearsal for non-AEA around June 21st, and for AEA on June 30th or July 7th, 2008. Performances run July 25th through August 3rd at the Kavli Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Countrywide Performing Arts Center. Currently seeking Equity Talent and non-Equity Talent.

All roles are open except for the roles of DON, COSMO and THE GIRL IN THE GREEN DRESS (in the Broadway Melody Ballet), and all roles open to Non-Equity talent. One Guest Artist Contract (Tier III) is available, to be used on either KATHY SELDEN or LINA LAMONT.
Adult roles limited to Age 15 and above. Please bring picture and resume. Bring sheet music in the proper key, accompanist provided. Musical theatre music; no pop. No recorded music or a capella, please. Non-union please limit song to one minute. For dance calls, please bring all your shoes, plus the above music. DIVERSITY IS ENCOURAGED. All ethnic types WELCOME.

KATHY SELDEN (Age 20s) – Debbie Reynolds role in film. Attractive ingénue. Fresh and spirited, this aspiring “serious” actress initially rebuffs movie star Don’s romantic advances. Although secretly smitten with Don, she is not afraid to speak her mind, and the two ultimately fall in love. Partnering and tap dance skills a must. Lyrical singing voice to a C.
LINA LAMONT (Age 25-40) – Jean Hagen role in film. Although a glamorous silent screen star, her offscreen persona is brash and crass. Character voice, highly comedic (yet not a caricature). She has a song, “What’s Wrong With Me,” not in the film. Belt singing voice to an F.
R.F. SIMPSON (Age 30-60) – Character role. Studio head of Monumental Pictures. Commanding physical presence. Singing a plus.
DORA BAILEY (Age 30-50) – Comedic, character role. A bubbly, larger-than-life, Hedda Hopper-style gossip columnist and radio personality. Seeking all physical types. Strong singing voice a plus.
ROSCOE DEXTER (Age 30-60) – Comedic, character role. High-strung movie director of Monumental Pictures. Seeking all physical types. Singing a plus.
MALE DICTION COACH (Age 50-70) - Comedic, character role. Shakespearean speaking voice. Seeking all physical types. Singing a plus.
MISS DINSMORE (Age 40-60) - Character role. Lena’s frustrated classical speaking voice coach. Seeking all physical types. Singing a plus.
PRODUCTION TENOR – Strong vocals and charisma essential. Performs solo star turn in “Beautiful Girl” production number. Doubles as ENSEMBLE.
ROD – Eager Monumental Pictures press representative. Doubles as ENSEMBLE.
YOUNG DON and YOUNG COSMO (Ages 8-12) – Two dynamic boys to play Don and Cosmo as children. Must dance well with basic tap skills. Singing a plus.
SIX MALE and TEN FEMALE DANCERS WHO SING, age 15 and up, to play DANCERS, PARTY GUESTS, ENSEMBLE ROLES.
TWO MALE and TWO FEMALE SINGERS WHO MOVE, age 30 and up, to play PARTY GUESTS, ENSEMBLE ROLES
TWO GIRLS (Ages 8-14) to appear in various ensemble songs. Must dance well and sing.
