Auditions for 42ND STREET Announced!


Announcing auditions for Cabrillo Music Theatre’s production of 42ND STREET. This classic “backstage musical” will be directed and choreographed by original Broadway cast member Jon Engstrom. Steven Applegate will serve as Musical Director and Conductor, and the production will be supervised by Cabrillo Music Theatre’s Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld.

42ND STREET begins rehearsal for non-AEA February 16th, and for AEA on March 2nd, 2009. Performances run March 27th through April 5th at the Kavli Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Countrywide Performing Arts Center. Currently seeking Equity Talent and non-Equity Talent.

All roles are open and all roles open to Non-Equity talent. 3 Equity contracts are available, to be used for the following roles: Julian Marsh, Dorothy Brock, Billy Lawlor, and Peggy Sawyer. There is pay for all roles.
Adult roles limited to Age 15 and above. Due to the nature of the show, the entire ensemble must dance (especially tap) and sing. All those who wish to audition for the ensemble should attend a dance call, as must non-AEA Peggy, Billy, Andy and Annie. Please bring picture and resume. Bring sheet music in the proper key, accompanist provided. Musical theatre music; no pop. No recorded music or a capella, please. Non-union please limit song to one minute. For dance calls, please bring all your shoes, plus the above music. DIVERSITY IS ENCOURAGED. All ethnic types WELCOME.

When leaving a message, please include your name, role(s) for which you’d like to be considered, telephone number, day and approximate time you’d like to audition, and whether or not you’re a member of Actors’ Equity Assn.

ROLES:

PEGGY SAWYER – Lead ingenue role “21 years old”. Attractive young lady who taps extremely well and must be a strong singer.

JULIAN MARSH – Leading male role. Must sing very well and must be powerful & charismatic. Should be mature enough to have established himself as a leading director on Broadway.

DOROTHY BROCK – Leading female role. A “Star”! Must sing very well. Attractive performer who moves well and has a sense of humor.

BILLY LAWLOR – Lead male singing & dancing role (20’s –30’s). Must tap extremely well and must be a tenor.

MAGGIE JONES – Leading character role. The writer of the show. Must sing & move very well and must be able to play comedy with great warmth & charm.

BERT BARRY – Leading character role. The other writer of the show. Comedian with vaudeville timing. Should have a warm nebbish quality. (35 & up).

ABNER DILLION – Character role. The Stars “sugar daddy” from Oklahoma. Prefer a large man. Ability to sing a help but not necessary.

ANYTIME ANNIE – Young character role. One of the girls in the “chorus”. Must be a first rate tap dancer and must sing well with a big belt voice.

PAT DENNING – 40’s – 50’s Handsome. “Dorothy Brock’s” real love interest. A vaudeville performer down on his luck. A warm nurturing quality. Must sing well.

MAC – Character actor 30’s & up. The stage manager and also plays other roles. Ability to sing well a real plus but not necessary.

ANDY LEE – The dance director of the show. Must be old enough to have achieved that status and must be excellent tap dancer & must sing.

OSCAR – The rehearsal pianist. Non-speaking role. Must play piano extremely well.

Also looking for a large, youthful, well toned, tap dancing ensemble. Other roles in the show will be assigned from this group.
