Announcing auditions for Cabrillo Music Theatre’s production of CATS. Based on “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” by T.S. Elliot, and set to music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS ran on Broadway for 18 years, winning 7 Tony Awards. This production, the first to be mounted specifically for the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, will be directed by Ovation Award-winner Dana Solimando, a veteran of the CATS National Tour. Ilana Eden will serve as Musical Director and Conductor, and the production will be supervised by Cabrillo Music Theatre’s Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld.
CATS begins rehearsal for non-AEA June 20th, and for AEA on June 29th, 2009. Performances run July 24th through August 2nd at the Kavli Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Countrywide Performing Arts Center. Currently seeking Equity Talent and non-Equity Talent.
All roles are open and all roles open to Non-Equity talent. 3 Equity contracts (Guest Artist, Tier III) are available, to be used for the following roles: Grizabella, Old Deuteronomy, Gus/Growltiger/Bustopher Jones, Rum Tum Tugger, Munkustrap, Mistoffelees, and Jellylorum/Griddlebone.
There is pay for all roles.
There are no children’s roles in CATS. Those auditioning should be able to convince in an adult, professional company. Please bring picture and resume. Bring sheet music in the proper key, accompanist provided. Musical theatre okay. Pop appropriate only for specific roles as indicated. Non-union please limit song to one minute. No recorded music or a capella, please. Most dancers in the show sing up to a G, but there are a few exceptions. Bustopher Jones/Gus/Growltiger – Male. “Opera, Theatrical Cat.” Strong tenor. Two octave range to B flat. Transforms from elderly to young actor/opera singer in his prime. Dance minimal.
Cassandra – Female. “The striking Abyssinian” or “Siamese Cat.” Long, sleek & proud. Excellent dancer with beautiful lithe body. Tall. Singing a plus but not necessary.
Coricopat – Male. Tantomile’s male twin. Excellent dancer who sings.
Demeter – Female. Sings “Macavity” with Bombalurina. Strong Belt, Low G to Mid-range C. Average to tall. Sexy with great body. Excellent dancer. True triple threat.

Mistoffelees – Male. “The Magical, Conjuring Cat.” Outstanding male dancer with strong ballet. Must have excellent solid turns. Short to average height. Young & playful. Singing a plus but not necessary.
Mungojerrie – Male. Lovable juvenile delinquent. Excellent dancer/singer (Tenor) with lots of energy. Physical comedy a plus. Triple threat.
